Following are the Guidelines for Coursework Grades 9th-12th Grade:

  • Core Courses (Reading, Writing, Math, Social Studies, Science, Technology, World Language, etc.) require 4 Work Samples, per quarter.
  • Elective Courses (Physical Education, Music, Life Skills, Art, etc.) require an Elective Course Journal per course, per quarter.
  • Core Course Journal (CCJ) is needed for each parent-designed course. CCJ's need to include adequate goals, a reflection, and a log of hours (minimum 7.5 hours/quarter). These journals can be found in the Documents section of our website.
  • An Elective Course Journal (ECJ) is needed for each elective course. ECJ's need to include adequate goals, a reflection, and a log of hours (minimum 7.5 hours/quarter). These journals can be found in the Documents section of our website.

Correspondence courses from vendors such as Acellus, BYU, North Dakota Independent Study, GSN, etc. will assign a grade that we can accept directly. Music/P.E. grades will be assigned as letter grade provided the ECJ reflects sufficient hours (74 hours for 1/2 credit). We do not need Work Samples of Music or P.E.; however, Life Skills courses would require some samples, the nature and quantity would depend on the content of the course (talk to a PEAK teacher for details).

Students whom have not yet taken or passed the HSGQE must also complete online assessments in Math, Reading, and Writing each quarter.

These work samples must be aligned with Alaska State Standards.

At the end of each semester (December and May), parents need to fill out a Semester Grade Report and submit it. These can be found in the Documents section of our website.
