Hi all! I’m Alex. As a relatively new resident to Alaska, I can say with confidence that y’all live in a beautiful state! I’ll be working with the families of high school students alongside Kate as an advisory teacher, striving to determine the best path for their academic success.

My journey to this lovely mountainscape began in the rural countryside of western New York. I grew up in a family well-defined by do-it-yourself home projects, splitting logs to heat the house, and Sunday school. So I’m fairly comfortable with an ax in one hand and a Bible in the other.

I jumped into college thinking I wanted to pursue a career in forestry and wildlife in the mountains of upstate New York. But I eventually went on to attend Harding University in Arkansas where I acquired a Bachelor’s of Science in Mathematics and Physics. After that, I obtained a BFA in Animation and Illustration from SUNY Fredonia, because who doesn’t like dabbling in the arts? Finally, just prior to moving to Alaska, I earned a Master’s in Teaching from WGU. Eventually, I’d like to earn a Doctorate in something because I love learning! And evidently accruing copious amounts of debt!

Suffice to say, it took me a bit of trial and error to figure out what I wanted to do. But I did finally make it into a field that I love: teaching. Because I love learning. Quite a lot. Did I mention that? And I hope to find myself in a position where I can incite a sense of curiosity within those around me.

Outside of academics, I’m a bit of a geek. Comics, board games, video games, binge-watching TV shows… There’s a pretty strong pull for me to vicariously experience grand fantastical adventures. Getting out and having adventures myself is great too, as it’s very satisfying to get back out into the woods for a good hike! I also love cooking. And eating. Well, mostly eating, and cooking simply allows me to do that.

I look forward to being a part of the academic growth of your students!
